Demo and prep across The Denver Metro Area

A new floor is only as good as what's underneath it. Artisan Custom Flooring handles every step before installation - old floor removal, haul-away, dust control, moisture testing, and subfloor leveling - so the new floor lays flat, locks together tightly, and doesn't start squeaking two years down the road.

We work on every flooring type: glue-down tile, nailed-down hardwood, floating laminate, sheet vinyl, and bonded carpet. We show up with the right equipment - chipping hammers, ride-on scrapers, HEPA vacuums, self-leveling compound - and leave the space ready for the next crew to start immediately.

What's included

We work to a fixed scope so there's nothing to negotiate mid-project. Every demo and prep job follows the same baseline checklist.

  • Full removal of existing flooring (tile, hardwood, vinyl, carpet, laminate)
  • Plastic sheeting and HEPA vacuum dust control
  • Old material haul-away and disposal
  • Subfloor inspection for rot, mold, and structural issues
  • Moisture testing with calibrated meters
  • Self-leveling compound to flatten high and low spots
  • A final sweep so the next crew can start work immediately

Why dust control is worth the extra step

Older thinset, tile mastic, and hardwood adhesives can carry silica, glue residue, and in some homes built before 1990, asbestos. We seal off work areas with plastic, run HEPA-filtered air scrubbers, and wear proper PPE - standard on a commercial job, but rare on a residential one. The payoff is a project you can live next to without scrubbing dust out of the kitchen for weeks afterward.

Why dust control is worth the extra step

Subfloor leveling - the step a lot of installers skip

A subfloor out of level by more than 1/8" over 6 feet is enough to cause LVP and laminate joints to fail within months, and tile set over an uneven slab will crack. We level every job to the tolerances the manufacturer requires, using self-leveling underlayment, and patch any soft spots before calling a floor ready. That's the difference between a floor that lasts and one that gets pulled up again in three years.

Floor Demolition & Prep - frequently asked questions

Yes - haul-away and disposal are included in the demo price. You won't see old tile or carpet piled at the curb.

We run HEPA-filtered air scrubbers, plastic sheeting, and ground-source vacuums on our chipping tools. Compared to a typical contractor demo, expect roughly 90% less dust reaching the rest of the house.

We check during the estimate. If your subfloor already falls within manufacturer tolerance (usually 1/8" over 6 feet), no leveling is needed. If it doesn't, we quote leveling as its own line item so you can see the added cost clearly.

Vinyl tile and mastic installed before 1990 can sometimes contain asbestos. If we suspect it, we pause the job, send a sample out for testing, and bring in a licensed abatement contractor if it comes back positive, then resume prep once the area's cleared.
