The Denver Metro Area's tile installation crew

Tile is about as permanent a floor as you can put in, and also one of the easiest to install badly. Roughly 80% of a good tile job comes down to subfloor prep, mortar coverage, and layout - not the tile itself. Artisan Custom Flooring uses certified setters, large-format-rated mortars, and Schluter Ditra and Kerdi uncoupling membranes in wet areas so the finished floor lasts as long as the house does.

We supply and install ceramic, porcelain, natural stone, glass, and mosaic tile for floors, showers, backsplashes, fireplaces, and commercial spaces across The Denver Metro Area.

Where tile makes the most sense

Tile handles water, heat, and heavy traffic better than almost anything else you can put underfoot. Bathrooms, mudrooms, laundry rooms, entryways, sunrooms, and kitchens all benefit from a well-installed tile floor.

  • Bathrooms and showers - fully waterproof with the right membrane system underneath
  • Kitchens - heat- and stain-resistant, easy to keep clean
  • Entryways and mudrooms - handles road salt, grit, and wet boots without a complaint
  • Radiant-heated floors - tile conducts heat better than most flooring options
  • Commercial spaces - meets slip-resistance and durability codes for restaurants and retail

How we build a tile floor that holds up

Every job starts with a full subfloor inspection - deflection, moisture, or unevenness gets addressed before a single tile goes down. We use modified thinset rated for the tile size, back-butter large-format tiles for full coverage, and use leveling clips on planks and large rectangles to keep lippage in check. Showers get Schluter Kerdi or RedGard waterproofing, a properly sloped pre-pitch bed, and a correctly bonded curb.

Every install finishes with sealed grout (or epoxy grout where requested) and a final walk-through before we call it done.

Tile Flooring - frequently asked questions

Most rooms run 2 to 3 days - demo and prep on day one, setting tile on day two, grouting and sealing on day three. Showers and large-format tile can add a day or two.

On plywood subfloors and any heated floor, yes - it keeps substrate movement from cracking your tile and grout. On a concrete slab it's optional, though we still recommend it in wet areas.

Sometimes, if the existing tile is well-bonded, level, and the added height won't cause a problem with doors. Otherwise, we remove the old tile and start from a flat subfloor.

Standard cement grout eventually will if it isn't sealed. We seal every grout job on installation day, and we offer epoxy grout - stain-proof, no sealing required - as an upgrade for kitchens and showers.
