Laminate has come a long way
Modern laminate isn't the plasticky click floor from 15 years ago. Today's AC4 and AC5 products use high-resolution printed wear layers, beveled micro-edges, and textures embossed to match the grain underneath, so from across the room it reads as real hardwood. Artisan Custom Flooring carries European-made laminate from Krono, Egger, and Quick-Step for The Denver Metro Area homeowners who want the hardwood look at roughly half the installed cost.
Laminate is a strong choice anywhere you want that wood look with a tougher wearing surface - rental units, busy family rooms, hallways, kids' bedrooms, and basement bonus rooms.

AC ratings are the spec that actually matters
The AC (Abrasion Class) rating tells you how the wear layer will hold up. We won't install anything below AC4 in an The Denver Metro Area home.
- AC3 - light residential only (bedrooms, low-traffic rooms), not something we recommend
- AC4 - heavy residential and light commercial use, our standard for most homes
- AC5 - heavy commercial-rated, a good fit for entryways, hallways, and rental units
- AC6 - intense commercial use, available on special order
- Water-resistant cores (HDF or SPC-hybrid) - required in kitchens and bathrooms

Installation that stays flat and quiet
Laminate is a floating floor - skip proper subfloor prep or expansion gaps and it will telegraph every flaw and peak at the seams. We laser-level before install, use 3-in-1 underlayment with a vapor barrier over concrete, and leave a proper 1/4" perimeter gap concealed behind baseboard or quarter-round.
Every install includes an on-site acclimation period, staggered end joints for strength, and transitions color-matched to adjoining rooms.

Laminate Flooring - frequently asked questions
No - laminate has a wood-fiber (HDF) core with a printed, laminated wear layer, while vinyl plank has a plastic core and is fully waterproof. Laminate feels harder underfoot but reacts worse to standing water.
Modern water-resistant laminate (AquaGuard, Hydroseal, and similar products) manages kitchen spills fine. We'd steer away from standard laminate right next to a sink or dishwasher.
AC4 laminate typically runs 15 to 20 years in a home; AC5 commercial-grade can go 25-plus years. The wear layer isn't something you sand or refinish - once it's worn through, it gets replaced.
Yes - demo and disposal of the existing floor is part of every quote. We inspect concrete slab or plywood subfloor conditions during the in-home estimate.
