Solid hardwood, done by people who actually love the material
Solid hardwood is where Artisan Custom Flooring started, and it's still what gets the crew most excited to show up on a job. Every board is 100% real wood - no printed layer, no composite core - milled from species that can be sanded and refinished for generations. Whether you're renovating an older bungalow closer to central Denver or finishing a new build out toward Parker, we bring the same attention to subfloor prep, acclimation, and layout that solid wood demands.

Species, brands, and finish options
We sell and install solid hardwood across every species and grade our clients ask for, and we carry it from mills that take the craft seriously - Lauzon, Appalachian Hardwood, Armstrong, Mirage, Aacer, Somerset, Vintage, Coswick, Sheoga, Mercier, Kahrs, Bruce, Owens, LM, and Anderson, along with custom-milled runs when a stock product won't cut it. Because we buy in volume directly from these manufacturers, pricing stays fair without cutting corners on the wood itself. We'll also stain and finish unfinished solid wood to whatever color you're picturing - we're not limited to what ships pre-finished.

Installation and pattern work
Nail-down and glue-down installation over plywood, concrete, or particleboard are both standard for us, but the part that separates a craftsman shop from a flooring crew is pattern work. Beyond a classic straight or diagonal run, we install chevron, herringbone, basket weave, Monticello and Haddon Hall patterns, and custom medallions and inlays. Every job follows accepted wood-industry installation standards, and a custom pattern request is a welcome challenge for a crew with 20-plus years in the trade - not an inconvenience.

Solid wood stairs
A staircase is the one part of the house nearly every guest touches, and it's almost entirely a labor project rather than a materials one - unlike carpet, where the budget option lives in the pad, hardwood stair cost is mostly the craftsmanship. Getting it right is 100% custom work: square nosings cut to fit, floating or open-style stair construction, and site-finished solid treads. This is where two decades of hands-on experience actually shows up in the finished product.

Real & Solid Hardwood Flooring - frequently asked questions
Installed correctly, 50 to 100-plus years is realistic. It can be sanded and refinished 6 to 10 times over that span, which is why it's still standing in Denver homes built well before either of us were around.
Not directly - it needs to be nailed into a wood subfloor. Over a slab, we either build up a plywood base first or point you toward engineered hardwood, which is built for exactly that situation.
Prefinished boards come sealed from the factory - faster install, with a slight micro-bevel between boards. Site-finished gets sanded and coated in your home, which gives you a perfectly flat surface in a custom color, but takes longer to cure.
Solid wood moves more with temperature and moisture than most radiant-heat setups tolerate well, so we usually steer clients toward engineered hardwood there. If solid wood is non-negotiable, we'll spec narrower, rift-and-quartered boards to keep movement in check.
